September 9. Took a day trip out of Naarden today to Den Haag, known more
commonly amongst English speakers as The Hague. One afternoon was hardly enough time
in this historical city, but it's all we had, so we just acted like Americans
and hurried through.
We did have time to go through the Mauritshuis museum, a former private residence whose owner collected art from the Dutch masters of the Golden Age. Some nice works here, although we were dissapointed to find that Rembrandt van Rijn's Anatomy Lesson was under restoration, and was therefore not on display. But then, that gives us a good excuse to come back again. As a lucky visitor to this website, however, you can see a detail from that great work.
